He is a Review Editor of Journal of World Christianity and has served on the editorial advisory board for Studies in the History of Christian Mission since 1997. His publications on the encounter of Hindus and Buddhists
with Christian missionaries in the nineteenth century South Asia include Vain Debates: The Buddhist-Christian Controversies of Nineteenth-Century Ceylon and The Bible Trembled: The Hindu-Christian Controversies of Nineteenth-Century Ceylon. He is interested in the history of the encounter between Christianity and various religions of Asian origin, the place of Christianity in non-Western pluralisms, and contemporary understandings of interreligious dialogue.
